Name: Syeda Malliha
Recipient Year: 2021
Major: Law
Description: As a Bangladeshi immigrant and first generation student, Syeda is committed to reimagining how historically underserved communities can thrive. After graduating from law school she pursued a career in public criminal defense. Syeda's favorite lines of literature are from Toni Morrison’s Beloved: “the only grace they could have was the grace they could imagine. That if they could not see it, they would not have it.” She believes defense work targeting systemic racial injustice is integral to seeing (and thereby having) a world less cruel than our present carceral reality.
