Description: Bassel will begin a fellowship at the Abolitionist Law Center as an ISF Public Interest Fellow. He hopes to use the fellowship to advance legal accountability for corporate complicity in state violence and to help affected communities achieve redress. Bassel is a recent graduate of New York University School of Law, where he was a Joyce Lowinson Scholar with the Institute for International Law and Justice. While at NYU, Bassel was a member of the Muslim Law Students Association, Law Students for Justice in Palestine, and Law Review. He also worked with NYU’s Immigrant Defense Clinic, CARECEN, the New York Council on American-Islamic Relations, NYU’s Constitutional Litigation Clinic, and the Abolitionist Law Center. Prior to law school, Bassel grew up in Grand Forks, North Dakota, before moving to New York to attend Columbia University, where he graduated in 2021 with a B.A. in History and a Concentration in Computer Science. Between college and law school, he interned at the Jerusalem Fund in Washington, D.C.
