Description: My name is Anaum Virani, and I am a rising senior at the University of Florida, majoring in Political Science and Theology. After graduating this December, I hope to attend law school. As a native Floridian, I am passionate about advocating for progressive values across my state and have been deeply involved in community organizing to work towards a more equitable future. My internship on Capitol Hill in the Fall of 2023 solidified my passion for local and state policy as a space for driving change, specifically in the arena of juvenile justice. Given my home state leads the country in direct file, I dream of expanding civil citation and diversion programs while creating pathways to expunge criminal records for non-violent offenders. This connects with the larger goal of abolishing the school-to-prison pipeline and restructuring educational institutions to better serve marginalized students.
