Description: Maryam Muhsina Shakir devoted herself to communications from the age of seven. In high school she raised money and awareness for the House of Hope orphanage in Uganda through her charter of the New Global Citizens club, and won various written and performed poetry competitions. Maryam was the first to graduate in her immediate family from the University of Arizona with a degree in Political Science and Communication. While attending she used her stage presence to further several on and off campus organizations like the Muslim Student’s Association in the Malcolm X Movie night, the Black Student Union’s Hear Us See Us campaign, and The Tucson Unified School district’s Cradle to College event, to name a few. Maryam completed the Madinah Institute U.S.A.’s pilot Foundations of the Din intensive, is active with the society for SacredService, and graduated with her Masters in Education Administration and Public Policy from the University of Georgia in spring 2017.
