Description: Hasnaa Mokhtar completed a Ph.D. in International Development at Clark University in 2021, after graduating in 2015 with a M.A. in International Development and Social Change, from the department of International Development, Community, and Environment. Born in Tucson, AZ and raised in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, she dedicated her research, journalism, and activism to amplify the voices of Muslim women and tackle the injustices of gender-based violence. Hasnaa worked as a journalist in Arab News, and her articles appeared in several publications. In March 2017, Hasnaa worked with the team of MuslimGirl to organize the first official Muslim Women’s Day. You can read her work at clippings.me/hmokhtar. Mokhtar also received a Fulbright award to fund her research in Kuwait City with Abolish Article 153, a movement to abolish an archaic colonial law that sanctions violence against women. As a certified counselor, she provides resources and support for women survivors of violence.
