    Description: Laila is Special Projects Attorney on the Family Detention Legal Services team at RAICES, which offers free legal services to individuals detained in ICE custody at the Karnes family immigration prison in Texas. Her work includes assisting in litigation, the filing of civil rights complaints, coordinating advocacy campaigns, and advocating alongside detained individuals with internal and external partners, with goal of obtaining their release from detention, and ultimately abolishing the practice of immigrant detention. Previously, she worked as a Staff Attorney on the same team, representing detained clients in expedited removal proceedings. Laila is a 2019 graduate of American University Washington College of Law, where she worked in the international human rights impact litigation and workers’ rights clinics. She is also an organizer and student of abolition.
