Description: Rasheeda Munira Plenty graduated from Zaytuna College with a degree in Islamic Law and Theology. Her time there afforded her the opportunity to participate in developing an oral history project connected to issues of redlining in historic Kansas City neighborhoods, in organizing annual literature symposiums, and in building a translation initiative aimed at supporting new translators, among many other projects. Her translations of contemporary Arabic poetry have been published in several literary magazines, including Banipal, Pleiades, and the Washington Square Review. Rasheeda also attended Zaytuna’s Summer Arabic Intensive for three summers, which ignited her love of the language and cemented her desire to be a part of the integral endeavor that is Zaytuna College. Her time, while focused on classes and studying, was also filled with involvement in local community and student organizations, which has allowed her to gain further experience.
