Description: Sara Swetzoff received a PhD from the African Studies department at Howard University. She previously obtained an M.A. in Islamic Studies at the University of London, and worked as a policy fellow at the Islamic Society of North America. Sara’s research focuses on grassroots solidarity in the Red Sea region, with emphasis on how Ethiopian migrants, Syrian refugees, and civil society activists from across the Arab world and Horn of Africa are increasingly building a shared vision for social justice that embraces religious and ethnic pluralism. Sara teaches political science at the college level; she hopes to give students a dynamic and nuanced understanding of global political economy that can inform a diversity of career trajectories.
