Description: Sana A. Malik is a UK-born Pakistani-Canadian filmmaker based in New York. She is the co-director of CITIZEN KHAN. Her BAFTA winning short documentary, GUANAJUATO NORTE, which she co-directed and co-produced has streamed on the New Yorker Magazine’s documentary channel. Her short narrative film, AWAY, TOGETHER, was funded by the Move Mountains Filmmakers Grant and won awards at the Santa Fe Independent Film Festival. Sana is a 2021 recipient of the New York Foundation of the Arts Canadian Women Artists’ Award. In addition to her independent filmmaking, Sana is a co-owner of Meerkat Media Co-operative where she has produced and directed work for clients such as Nike and Sesame Street. She's produced for Frontline PBS, the BBC, Axios on HBO and MTV. Sana has a Masters in Documentary Film from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, and degrees from the University of London (LSHTM), and the University of Toronto. She is a member of Brown Girls Doc Mafia and the Brooklyn Filmmakers' Collective.
