    Description: Yasmine Elkharssa was born and raised in Dearborn Heights, Michigan and is the daughter of two Lebanese immigrants. She is a rising junior at the University of Michigan and is majoring in Public Policy from the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy. Yasmine has been involved on campus by conducting sociopolitical research about United States elections, as well as dedicating time to nourishing a learning community dedicated to community service and diversity on campus. She serves on the Executive Board of a progressive policy organization where she has pioneered her own policy memo on the rights of Muslim women in prisons. Yasmine also is a writer for The Michigan Daily column "Michigan in Color" where she writes articles pertaining to her Arab and Muslim identity on campus. Later, she hopes to pursue law school with a focus in Civil Rights law or Criminal law.
