    Description: Yasmine Elkharssa was born and raised in Dearborn Heights, Michigan and is the daughter of two Lebanese immigrants. She is a graduate of the University of Michigan, majoring in Public Policy from the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy. Yasmine conducted sociopolitical research about United States elections and dedicated time to nourishing a learning community dedicated to community service and diversity on campus. She served on the Executive Board of a progressive policy organization, where she pioneered her own policy memo on the rights of Muslim women in prisons. Yasmine also was a writer for The Michigan Daily column "Michigan in Color" where wrote articles pertaining to her Arab and Muslim identity on campus. As a Truman Scholar, she hopes to pursue law school with a focus in Civil Rights law or Criminal law.
