Description: Sumaya Siddiqui is a rising 3L at the University of Texas School of Law, focused on protecting civil rights and combating mass incarceration. She earned her B.B.A. in Marketing from the University of Houston, interning with the Texas state government and the League of Women Voters before working in communications at the Texas Civil Rights Project. In law school, she has interned with Texas Defender Service, Life After Justice, and the Center for Constitutional Rights as an Ella Baker Legal Intern, working on protecting students’ First Amendment rights, Palestine solidarity, and international human rights advocacy. As a student attorney in UT’s Civil Rights Clinic, she explored legal claims to challenge minority government surveillance, and in the Parole Representation Pro Bono Project, she helped secure parole for two incarcerated women. Sumaya aims to utilize her law degree to support movements for liberation and social justice.
