Description: Yasmeen Azam holds a B.A. in International Relations with a Minor in Middle Eastern Studies and Economics from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). During that time, Yasmeen participated in various international programs centered on Islamic studies and media training. She earned her M.A. in the Anthropology of Law from the University of Chicago and is currently a Ph.D. student in the Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley. Yasmeen’s research at UC Berkeley focuses on medical and legal anthropology, with particular interest in the theorization of pain and violence. More specifically, she studies the intersection of labor and law through (imminently) working with migrant workers in Doha, Qatar. She has served the Muslim American Society for a decade and has been actively involved in her local masjid since high school.
