Description: Malak Afaneh is a law student at Berkeley Law and a designated Human Rights Center Scholar. As the proud daughter of Palestinian immigrants, Malak has always possessed a passionate affinity for amplifying the voices of Muslim communities both domestically and internationally, and during her time at Berkeley has worked with the International Human Rights Workshop, the Afghanistan Project, and serves as the President of Students for Justice in Palestine. Malak earned her Bachelors Degree from Pomona College as a double major of Politics and Middle Eastern Studies. As an undergraduate, Malak worked with a number of legal advocacy networks and NGOs in the U.S., Greece, Jordan, and Morocco, including the University Network for Human Rights, the Greek AmeriCorps, and Neighborhood Legal Services. In an effort to provide positive representation of Muslim women in fashion and media, Malak founded Rosie the Hijabi LLC, a social enterprise that dedicates a percentage of profits to survivors of violence.
