    Description: Named after the Zoroastrian “God of Light,” MITHRA B. ALAVI is an Iranian American comedy writer/director and graduate of the MFA Film program at Florida State University. Her student film THREE’S A CROWD was a Student Emmy Award winner and convinced her to pursue writing and directing in Los Angeles. Raised Muslim in the Evangelical Bible belt of Northeast Tennessee, Mithra credits her mixed cultural background as the source of inspiration for her work. Her original pilot “Rules for Being a Mutt” based on her experience as an Iranian American Muslim teenager after 9/11, earned her a spot in Disney’s 2022 Writing Program, leading to her taking a position as a Staff Writer on Season 2 of Freeform’s “Single Drunk Female." Her short “Bird’s Fly Home” was accepted into the Academy Award Qualifying, LA Short International Film Festival, and won Best Narrative Short at the Indie Spirit Film Festival and Best Drama Short at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival.
