Zuleqa Husain is a graduate student with AU’s new international media program. She developed an interest in journalism when she was working for America’s premier Muslim policy institution, Muslim Public Affairs Council. She has worked previously as a reporter with Voice of America’s Urdu service which broadcasts to Pakistan. Since joining the program, Zuleqa has interned with a number of broadcast outlets in DC, including WAMU (NPR affiliate) and Al-Jazeera English. She hopes to be producer of long-format TV news shows. Her current research is on Al-Jazeera International’s forays into North America and how western audiences are responding to the self-proclaimed ‘voice of the south.’ For her capstone graduate project, she is working on a biographic documentary of a Hyderabadi businessman and philanthropist. Born in Hyderabad, India, brought up in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, and educated in the United States, Zuleqa comfortably navigates three different cultures. She teaches Urdu in her spare time and hosts poetry nights in her house in Alexandria, VA.
