UC Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism
Sarah El Safty studies at UC Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism with a concentration in New Media. She received a Bachelor of Arts from the American University in Cairo with a double-major in Economics and Multimedia Journalism. Sarah is particularly passionate about reporting on business stories that are interactive, compelling and visual. She has covered a wide-range of business stories from across the globe, including the impact of the oil price slump on the GCC, the management of California’s power grid and the adoption of the IMF program in Egypt. Her work has appeared on several news outlets, including Bloomberg and the BRICS Post. She was also part of the team that launched one of Egypt’s first English/Arabic podcasts: Ehky Ya Masr. The vision that drives her career is to write business stories that are relatable to the everyday reader, such that they’d not only be able to understand the often unseen and complicated forces that shape their world, but to also hold those in power accountable.
