Bio
Osama Alkhawaja is an undergraduate student pursuing a B.A. in Political Science with a background in computer science at San Diego State University. Osama has been an active member of the San Diego muslim community for several years. Osama has volunteered to help coordinate fundraisers for Islamic Relief and Helping Hand and has assisted in projects for CAIR and the Islamic School of San Diego. He has been burdened with the position of brothers coordinator for the Muslim American Society’s youth department and has served as brothers coordinator for his MSA at SDSU.
Osama is currently in his second term as Students for Justice in Palestine President and has devoted a bulk of his time to helping advocate for the Palestinian cause both on and off campus, which has led him to assume several roles in his student government including the College of Science Representative and the Student Diversity Commission Representative. His involvement on campus involved leading a diverse coalition of student organizations at SDSU to pass a divestment campaign urging his University to divest from companies profiting of the Israeli occupation of Palestine. Osama wants to earn his Law Degree while continuing to be an active member of the Muslim community with an emphasis in being involved in social justice and civil rights issues. He hopes that he can contribute to both domestic and international causes that require Muslims to reenvision what it means to be ambassadors of our dean by giving back to the community that we are now undeniably a part of, and the greatest gift Osama wants to help give his American brothers and sisters is the gift of Islam. Osama has worked with CAIR-SD as an Outreach Coordinator and representing CAIR in different local government and non-governmental meetings.
