Dina Awshah is a first-year law student at Emory University School of Law. She was born and raised in Tampa, Florida to Palestinian immigrant parents which ultimately fueled her passion for the study of law and the pursuit of justice.
Dina graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in International Studies, with a focus on Europe and the Middle East, from the University of South Florida. During her time at USF, Dina was an active member of her community through engagement with her school’s Mock Trial Club, Students for Justice in Palestine, and the United Nations Association. Her involvement with these clubs helped to cultivate her understanding and appreciation of global notions of law. In the final year of her undergraduate career, Dina participated in a human rights-oriented internship with Amnesty International’s Middle East Advocacy Director in Washington, D.C.
At Emory, and beyond, Dina hopes to utilize her knowledge of language and uniquely global perspective to redressing and advocating for victims of rights violations using a variety of different approaches. Emory University School of Law will surely provide Dina with a strong educational foundation and experiences to make create a well-rounded and socially conscious human rights lawyer.
