She previously interned at the Muslim Public Affairs Council as a Communications Intern, USC Center on Public Diplomacy as an Events and Programming Assistant, USC Center on Communication Leadership and Policy as a Research Associate on Human Trafficking.
Growing up in both America and Malaysia has allowed her to experience Muslim communities as both a majority and minority group and the significance of owning your voice. Understanding that and the importance of storytelling, Soraya is West Coast Regional Director for Coming of Faith (www.comingoffaith.com), a first of its kind project that is a compilation of coming of age and faith stories by Muslim women in college and young professionals. She is also a co-founder of ideaLA (www.ideala.org), an initiative that helps creates awareness, expand networks and empowers minority entrepreneurs, especially high school students, about social entrepreneurship/entrepreneurship. Upon graduation, Soraya hopes to work in the public diplomacy field, where understanding the nuances of culture can foster and cultivate understanding towards achieving a connected and compassionate world.
