About ISF:

The Islamic Scholarship Fund (ISF) is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization.  As a social justice organization, ISF’s mission is to increase the presence of American Muslims in media and policy related professions to improve public opinion and public policies that impact Muslims in the United States. ISF’s platform of services include academic scholarships, film grants, congressional internships and parent and youth education workshops.

Our vision is a society where religion, culture and race are not barriers to equality.

 

The Position:

The Executive Director will have principal responsibility directing the day-to-day operations of the Islamic Scholarship Fund (ISF), managing its staff, development activities, creating as well as overseeing its budget and the drafting of its annual statements. Working with the President and senior staff members and the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will develop and implement a strategic and operational plan for the organization’s activities. The Executive Director will be responsible for expanding ISF’s capacity and assuring the organization’s long-term sustainability. Strong candidates will possess excellent managerial, interpersonal, and communication skills. The Executive Director will also routinely interact with the board, staff, government officials, media and film professionals and a diverse group of academicians and religious community leaders.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategy and Planning

  • Capacity to develop and implement, under the direction of the president and the board, a far-reaching and dynamic strategic plan for ISF’s activities on a local and national level
  • Assist the board and the President in developing and implementing ISF’s values, mission, vision, and short- and long-term goals
  • Lead and oversee overall strategic planning as well as tactical and budget planning with an eye toward transparency and accountability
  • Monitor, evaluate and report the relevance of ISF’s work to key stakeholders including thought leaders, media, film and public policy professionals and policy makers in Washington D.C.
  • Measure the impact and effectiveness of ISF’s work to share with key stakeholders including the board, donors, and supporters
  • Identify additional revenue streams to enhance strategic flexibility while extending ISF’s footprint consistent with its mission
  • Develop and implement an alumni engagement strategy

 

Leadership and Management

  • Provide general oversight of all ISF activities, manage day-to-day operations, and assure a smoothly functioning, efficient organization
  • Actively engage and energize ISF staff, scholars, board members, and supporters
  • Lead, coach, develop and retain a high-performing team; empower, energize, and develop overall staff capacity
  • Assure a work environment that attracts, retains, and supports quality staff and volunteers. Employ equitable processes for selecting, developing, motivating, and evaluating staff and volunteers
  • Ensure programmatic excellence and rigorous evaluation as well as consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; manage timelines and resources needed to achieve strategic goals
  • Employ operational systems to evaluate program components, measure success, and effectively communicate outcomes to the Board, funders, and key stakeholders
  • Keep informed of developments in human services, non-profit management and governance, philanthropy, and fund development
  • Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

 

Fundraising and Development

  • Lead ISF’s fundraising and development effort
  • Participate actively in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting donor prospects
  • Expand fundraising activities to support organizational growth and program operations
  • Responsible for overseeing the grant process. This may involve writing grant proposals, both for repeat grants and for new grants, meeting with representatives of the various funding organizations, keeping track of grant deadlines and the timing for reapplication.
  • Expand networks of potential fundraising contacts to include individuals, foundations, and institutional/corporate supporters
  • Develop relationships with key political and community leaders, funders, thought leaders and influencers, and other stakeholders
  • Build ISF’s funder network and brand equity by articulating our impact to broad target audiences on social media, at events, and at public speaking engagements

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Preferably holds a master’s degree in non-profit management, business administration, or related fields.
  • Proven leadership skills and experience of at least ten years in management positions within the non-profit or business sector.
  • Excellent organizational, development, interpersonal, marketing, communication, administration and personnel management skills essential.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working within multicultural societies, Awareness, and familiarity with Muslim majority countries.
  • Is trustworthy, diplomatic, understanding, and innovative with a high energy level.
  • Is a visionary and possesses a passion for the ISF mission.
  • Excellent managerial, analytical and writing skills and experience.
  • Experience developing creative policy ideas and their strategic implementation
  • Ability and commitment to operate in a thoroughly non-partisan manner.
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; strong presentation skills

 

Salary Range: Salary range $100k-$200k depending on experience. Compensation will include health benefits and retirementplan.
